3 new ideas for what I want to do for my capstone.... I have been searching for new camera equipment that will improve the documentary I will be creating, particularly some lenses. I am debating wether to use prime lenses or zoom lenses for the video. Another idea I came up is about the music that will be in the documentary. And lastly I have set up a day aside to go visit the owners of the land the documentary will be shot at. They could give me a lot of input for the movie.
Examples that inspired my ideas..... well in the video program at school they are using the exact same camera I will be shooting my documentary with (canon 60d's) except they have a lot of rigs and stuff to them. This inspired me to put some money down to buy more equipment. The music I have been very inspired just by hearing new types of electronic music. I am very excited that we will be creating our own music for the documentary. I know it will be a very hard task but at the same time it will give us a lot of options to be creative with it.
I think a capstone is the realization of your career, its in some way a proof that you can apply the skills you have been learning. Its a showing of your growth in your career. In my case the product will be in the form of a finished product I can keep forever or even show to anybody to furthen my studies or get a job. This is one project that I am very excited for, especially because I know I will not get done with it and throw it away.
I believe IUPUI wants us to work on this project for two semesters to teach us a lot about real life projects. They usually take many months or even years. For this you have to stay motivated and concentrated even if it feels you have been working with the project for forever.

ReplyDeleteFor documentary style work, I think that zoom lenses might work a little better, you never know when something might happen and you'd want to change focal lengths. Narrative wise, primes are great because you are planning the shot, docs you aren't necessarily planning as specific of shots so if there is action happening you may need to go wider at some point or get more of a close up.
